How to use it, step by step

There are two paths: the student who builds the survey and the instructor who runs the course. Each section has a short video and the same steps written out. The videos use a demo account; no real participant data is shown.

For now the videos are narrated and captioned in Turkish. English narration will follow.

Sign up with your course code, then build, check and publish your survey and download your data.

Sign up with the course code

The code your instructor gives you activates your account and links your workspace to the course.

Download the video

Steps

  1. 1 Open the registration link your instructor shared; the "Access code" field fills itself in. Without a link, go to "Create account" on the login page and type the code yourself.
  2. 2 Enter your name, email address and a password, then press "Create account".
  3. 3 The Studies page opens. The "Course workspace" box at the top says which course you are linked to and what your instructor can see: your studies, responses and analyses, without being able to change anything.
  4. 4 If you already have an account: type the code in the "Account status" box on the Studies page and press "Use code".
  5. 5 For group work only one person signs up with the code; that person invites the others by email from the "Team" page. Everyone works in the same workspace. The group size is limited by the code.

Set up a study

Create a study, add a ready-made scale from the catalogue, enter your research information and apply the BAU BAYEK consent template.

Download the video

Steps

  1. 1 On the Studies page, type the title in "New study title", choose the survey language and press "Create". The survey builder opens with the Introduction, Questions and Closing blocks.
  2. 2 Press "Add here" on the block the questions go to. Then choose the scale from the "Templates" list in the left column, for example BSMAS. The scale is added with its items and source; the "Source" link shows the reference.
  3. 3 For your own questions use the item types in the left column: Likert, categorical, open-ended and others. Drag items and blocks by their handle to reorder them.
  4. 4 On the "Settings" tab enter the research type, your name, faculty and department, programme and advisor (if any), then press "Save". The consent templates use this information, so save it first.
  5. 5 Go back to the "Survey builder" tab. Choose "BAU BAYEK consent form" in the "Templates" list and confirm. The text replaces the study's consent text. You can do the same with "Fill from a template" under Settings → Consent; remember to press "Save" there.
  6. 6 Fill in the parts still in [square brackets] under Settings → Consent to match your study.
  7. 7 The Basic / Advanced switch in the top bar changes the view. Basic shows what a course project needs; Advanced adds tools such as quotas, screening and paradata. Hidden settings keep working.

Check and publish

Check the form before publishing, preview it as a participant and start taking participants.

Download the video

Steps

  1. 1 In the survey builder press "Check". The "Before you publish" list opens: red lines block publishing, yellow lines are recommended, green ticks are done. The link on each line takes you to the place to fix.
  2. 2 Use "Participant preview" to see the form as participants will.
  3. 3 Press "Publish" and confirm. This version of the form is locked. To change it later, "Open new version" creates a new draft.
  4. 4 Publishing alone does not take participants: on the "Overview" tab set the status to "Pilot" or "Live". Use Pilot for trial data; pilot responses are marked in the export.
  5. 5 If you need ethics approval, apply before collecting data (see the next section for the application pack) and enter the approval under Settings → Ethics committee approval. The committee, date and number are shown to participants on the consent screen.
  6. 6 The participant link is in the "Publishing" box on the "Overview" tab. Share this link with your participants.

Collect data, download it and the ethics application pack

Follow the responses, download the data for SPSS or Excel and prepare the ethics committee application pack.

Download the video

Steps

  1. 1 "Overview" shows total sessions, completions, the completion rate and the last 14 days.
  2. 2 On the "Responses" tab you can open each session. The "Analysis" tab shows frequencies, means, the scale total and Cronbach's alpha.
  3. 3 On the "Export" tab choose the format: SPSS (.sav) or CSV (Excel). For Turkish Excel choose the semicolon-separated layout. Press "Prepare"; when the file is ready, press "Download" in the "Previous exports" list.
  4. 4 Ethics application pack: press "Prepare application pack" on the "Overview" or "Export" page. The study information, consent text, the full form, scale references and a methods section draft open on one page. "Print / save as PDF" gives you a single PDF. The application is made before collecting data.
  5. 5 When data collection is over, set the status to "Closed" on the "Overview" tab.

Instructor

Follow the studies of the students who joined with your course code and add the scales you teach to the library.

Course code and following student studies

You see the studies of the students who signed up with your code on one page. Your access is read-only.

Download the video

Steps

  1. 1 The Talivio team prepares the course code and links it to your account. Sign up first without a code, then send us the email address you registered with.
  2. 2 "Courses" appears in the top menu. This page shows the code, the registration link, the plan, how many times it was used and the access period.
  3. 3 Share the registration link with your students; it fills in the code field for them.
  4. 4 The "Student workspaces" table shows each student or group workspace, its members, its studies, each study's status, completed and started responses and the last activity.
  5. 5 Click a study's name to see its overview, survey builder, responses and analysis, and to export the data. The "Course view (read-only)" strip stays at the top; you cannot change, publish or delete anything. "Back to courses" returns to the list.
  6. 6 Students do not see each other's studies. Each student's screen says that you can see their studies.
  7. 7 Your own "Studies" page may show an "Account status" notice: it is only about your own workspace and does not affect the Courses page.

Add a scale to the library and institution approval

Add a scale you use in class with its items and reference; your students then pick it as a ready-made template in the survey builder.

Download the video

Steps

  1. 1 On the "Scale templates" page press "Add a scale" in the "Scale library" section. For a catalogue scale whose items are not entered yet, use "Enter the items" on its card; the reference comes filled in.
  2. 2 Type the scale name and the variable name stem, choose the response format and number of points. Enter one item per line; give the reverse-scored items and the subscales.
  3. 3 Under "Source and permission" enter the original source (APA 7), the source of the Turkish version, the verification label, the reliability and the permission statement.
  4. 4 Under "Who can use it" choose: only you, this workspace, your course's student workspaces or the whole institution. Then press "Save scale".
  5. 5 An institution-wide scale becomes visible once the institution's approver accepts it; until then it says "Awaiting approval". Editing an institution-wide scale sends it back for approval.
  6. 6 Approvers check the source and permission statement in the "Awaiting your approval" list on the same page and press "Approve" or "Return". The Talivio team assigns the approver the institution names.
